Arthouse’s 25th auction draws virtual crowd

Arthouse Contemporary holds its twenty-fifth edition of its auction of Modern and Contemporary Art, online on Invaluable, www.invaluable.com. The event which is usually celebrated by a large turnout of art connoisseurs has gone online due to the Covid 19 pandemic, although the auction house is no stranger to the online platform, the 24th edition was also successfully done online. All bidding will close on 30 November 2020, 6 PM (WAT) | 12 PM (EST).
This edition of the auction which has seen a large turn out of virtual visitors features 80 lots by modern masters and established contemporary artists in West Africa. Bidding has opened on 23 November 2020.
Highlights of the auction include artworks by Nigeria’s leading modern masters, including a 1972 oil painting by Akinola Lasekan titled Portrait of Madam Aralepo, and Erhabor Emokpae‘s Reproduction series 2, an oil on softboard from 1978. Bruce Onobrakpeya‘s Good Governance (1988) an excellent example of his work in metal foil is present. The auction will feature three artworks by Kolade Oshinowo, including an oil on board from 1976, a landscape painting from 1980, and a recent painting. Two artworks by celebrated Ghanaian master Ablade Glover which reflect his focus on Ghana’s cityscapes and markets.
The auction also features many of Nigeria’s most celebrated contemporary artists, including Peju Alatise, Ben Osaghae, Kainebi Osahenye,Duke Asidere, Chidi Kwubiri, and Rom Isichei, among others. The auction will also present prints by Uche Okeke, Ben Enwonwu, David Dale and Yinka Shonibare.
This auction features four charity lots in support of The Adara Empowerment Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering women to actively contribute to the social-economic development of Africa by providing education and training support for women and youth, and supporting, promoting and documenting African arts and culture.
Arthouse Contemporary an international auction house that specialises in modern and contemporary art from West Africa and the diaspora is creating awareness of the scope of contemporary art in the region, encouraging international recognition towards its talented artists and strengthen the economy of the art market in Nigeria.
